Mixed Media 5

For both of these works, I used materials I had at my disposal, took photos of, and used photoshop to arrange them into more interesting pictures.  For the first one I used plastic egg shells used to store chocolates and wrapped them up with white paper, and lastly glued them to keep it closed. I wanted to fit the photo in a certain scenario, so I picked a photo of a sleeping dragon and a background of a cave with some light and placed the images together. I started to blend certain areas with the masking tool to make the eggs for example fit in next to the dragon. I lastly used multiple color adjustments, and lowered the contrast to make the elements fit in together.  The second digital work was with a plastic cup that I sprinkled water on to fit in the picture scenario that I wanted. I first placed a table and an ocean background to give the appearance of the cup and table underwater with regular fish which I found photos of and masked as well. Lastly I used a photo of...

Work 1: book cover rework The materials I used for this work was first a cut out of a book cover of a fable story. Then I cut out some cardboard, as placement instead of regular paper, followed y using regular printing paper glued under the cover to extend it. I cut out the author and illustrator description and used torn strips of brown paper to glue around the names, as well as use rubber bands to hold the corners, while the glue held the center of the paper.  Work 2: Candy wrapped ad With this I also used a cardboard cut out as a placement for the materials. I decided to use an undershirt to be be placed on the board rather than paper. Once I cut the back and stapled the front on the cardboard, I painted purple stripe patterns to mimic a Cheshire cat feel. I then used fruit candies to glue them in a symmetrical pattern, and finally used a clear, plastic wrapping to wrap the piece to make it look more like a packaged product.

First work: A Starry Night With this first work I used aluminum foil to mark as the ground and some parts of the sky background. I used acrylic black to paint the ground and tree silhouette and used ultramarine blue for the sky. I used watercolor blue for the blue on the paper and used a cut out of cloth to represent a moon on the top left.  Second Work: plant pot with lizard head With this I mainly used paper for the pot, which I used clips and rubber cement to keep it together. I used green origami to cut out leaves, as well as cut out some cloth to add an insect appear on one. Then I tried origami again to make the lizard head coming out of the paper pot.  Third Work: Dragon Nest This one I used brown wrapping paper to act as tree twigs and painted aluminum foil on the sides to portray them as wood logs. I then glued the origami dragon figure at the center.

First work and second work: melted crayons mixed with acrylic paint, with some leaves added With these works I wanted to think creatively of which  materials I wanted to use. With this first one, I decided to melt my old Crayola crayons in the oven and create an orange flower. It was kind of difficult as the melting process was tricky and I had to wait for it to cool off a bit. The crayons turned more so into soft chunks so I decided to spread and squish the crayons on the paper and leaves, and then add acrylic to give it more of a semblance of a flower. I did a second one similar to this one, creating a bunch of orange flowers using the now hardened crayons and using a brush to paint the acrylic, since the first one I used only my hands using gloves.  Third Work and Fourth Work: Origami paper and Acrylic Paint  With these I tried to learn some origami for the third work and in the fourth work I cut up some of the paper to glue the image I wanted onto the paper. The...

The medium I used for each of these varied as I wanted to combine different tools that I've never combined before. I looked at multiple mixed media ideas and examples to choose which mediums to combine and work with. For the house artwork I used watercolor and color pencils, with micron markers to finish the outlines of the pencil sketch. For the bird sketch I used acrylic paint and charcoal for the black areas and to show where the feathers should be placed. For the third picture I wanted to create stylized depiction of Komodo dragons and used color pencils and markers, though this one took me longer due to the blending of the color pencils.
